SOUTH AFRICAN NATIONAL SPORTS STRUCTURES, LEGISLATION & POLICY FUNCTIONAL STRUCTURE

All Sport in South Africa falls under the National Sport & Recreational Act and the associated Ministry Responsible for Sports & Recreation (SRSA) as well as the South African Sports Confederation & Olympic Committee (SASCOC) which forms the high performance leg. SASCOC is also responsible for recognition of National Federations. In terms of angling in South Africa, SASACC is recognised and affiliated to SASCOC and facilitates the interaction between the different national fishing facets and Government.

  • Provides for their member bodies to represent them at SADSAA.
  • Provides for members to represent their Province annually on an inter-provincial level as well as on a national level.
  • Provides for members to be selected for SADSAA colours prior to being selected for Protea colours.
  • Provides through I.G.F.A. for members to apply for internationally acclaimed world records.
  • Provides for members to have access to the All Africa records.
  • Provides anglers selected on a national and international (Protea) level with a small percentage of sponsorship from our Springbok fund.
  • Provides the members with suitably qualified selectors to attend all nationals to help with the selection / improvement and development of future Protea anglers.
  • Provides the guidelines for safety regulations for all the member skippers.
  • Provides through qualified instructors the resources to obtain skippers tickets and seaworthy tickets for their members.
  • Provides the training for all safety Officers.
  • Employs paid appointed Specialists working for the members of SADSAA when necessary.
  • Provides for its members, government representation, at all levels.
  • Provides a two page write up six times a year in the Ski-Boat magazine that 90% of the members of SADSAA subscribe to.dT68kjET9
  • Provides guidelines for member bodies on the running of their Provinces and in turn the Provinces to the clubs etc.
  • Provides the members with a website updated by the Office Bearers of SADSAA.
  • Provides all clubs with a newsletter from the SADSAA P.R.O. updating them with matters.
  • Provides the members with the infrastructure for contesting matters relating to angling / ski boating etc. E.G. 4×4 banning on beaches, Fishing licences, Bag limits imposed by the Government etc.
  • Provides the junior angler to represent his/her Province nationally with annual U16 and U19 National Championship tournaments.
  • Provides the opportunity for PDI’s to join and partake in the sport at all levels.
  • Provides the opportunity for women to compete and be recognised on the same level and ability as men for Provincial, National and Protea levels.
  • SADSAA is a member of ILTA, EFSA and FIPS which provides opportunities for members and clubs to compete internationally on all levels.
  • Provides all members and member bodies with a Safety Officer, Environmental Officer, Records Officer, Development Officer, Public Relations Officer, Tournaments Officer (both international and local), a Secretary and Treasurer to see to the needs of all member bodies and their members.
  • Most of all SADSAA provides the opportunity to each and every member to belong to a locally and internationally highly respected and motivated associated.

What does WPDSAA do for their Clubs and Anglers?

  • Provides for their member clubs and members to represent them at SADSAA and the SASACC.
  • Provides for members to represent their Province annually on an inter-provincial level as well as on a national level.

  • Provides anglers selected on a national and international (Protea) level with a small percentage of sponsorship from the SADSAA Protea fund.
  • Provides the members with suitably qualified selectors to attend all WPDSAA Inter Provincials and SADSAA nationals held in our Provincial waters to help with the selection / improvement and development of future WPDSAA, SADSAA, Protea and Juniors anglers.
  • Provides the guidelines for safety regulations for all the member skippers.
  • Provides through qualified instructors the resources to obtain skippers tickets and seaworthy tickets for their members.
  • Provides the training for all safety Officers.
  • Provides the training for all safety courses regarding to offshore radio usage.
  • Provides for Radio Safety when fishing offshore and inshore through association with Ski Boat Mobile.
  • Employs paid appointed Specialists working for the members of WPDSAA when necessary.
  • Provides for its members, government representation, at all levels through its affiliations to SADSAA and the Western Province Sport Council.
  • Provides a free write up on WPDSAA Inter Provincials and SADSAA Nationals and club tournaments through the year in the Leisure Boating magzine.
  • Provides guidelines for member clubs on the running of their clubs etc.

  • WPDSAA is affiliated through SADSAA thereof we are associated members of ILTA, EFSA and CIPS/FIPS which provides opportunities for members and clubs to compete internationally on all levels.

  • Most of all WPDSAA through SADSAA provides the opportunity to each and every member to belong to a locally and internationally highly respected and motivated associated Fraternity of Anglers globally.
  • WPDSAA through its WPDSAA PRO and Fundraising Officers assists in obtaining sponsorship for WPDSAA hosted Inter Provincials.
  • WPDSAA assist clubs in hosting Inter Provincials to obtain boats and skippers for the tournaments.
  • WPDSAA host Development workshops through its WPDSAA Development Officer and its clubs.
  • WPDSAA initiate’s fundraising projects to support the WPDSAA tournament fund to assist WPDSAA assists Anglers with their entry fees at Inter Provincial and Nationals level.
  • By being affiliated to WPDSAA clubs have a right to a lease of their existing sport club facility being that the club belongs to an authenticated sports body which is recognized by Government through WPDSAA affiliation to SADSAA the Western Province Sport Council and SASACC and SASCOC
  • WPDSAA host workshops and/or clinics on topics of fishing, safety, rules for Inshore and Offshore, and related products of sponsors by having to arrange a sponsors evening on various evenings at WPDSAA clubs.
  • WPDSAA through its Resource Management Officer provides a world renowned Catch Report system in conjunction with the WIFF, Universality of Cape Town and Rhodes University supported by SADSAA and SASACC.
  • WPDSAA provides CTV Coverage through its affiliation with the Western Province Sports Council on Sports Federation TV.
  • WPDSAA provides a long history of angling ethos and cameradie between its anglers, clubs and other Provincial Bodies.
